Stackable
Bundle of planed boards the length of an oar, banded in two places with iron strapping, end-grain stamped with the mill's mark in red ink that has half-faded under the rain. Smells of resin and the saw-shed it left.
Entry
Chronicle
Cut and kiln-dried at the river mill in runs of a hundred boards each, under a grading system the old mill-master refuses to change because it was his father's. Every board that passes is matched to a second board of similar character, and only sold in pairs, on the theory that a single board rarely solves a problem on its own.
