The Steel Beehive is a modern, reinforced apiary system designed for environments where wooden hives would rot, warp, or be stolen by raccoons. Once deployed, it attracts a micro-colony of hyper-adapted bees that generate honey and beeswax in fixed harvest cycles.
Its humming sound is strangely therapeutic, though the manual warns against sleeping beside it.

Lore
Designed at the agricultural station on the northern campus, by engineers who wanted a hive the moths would stop ruining and the beekeepers would stop having to rebuild every third year. The steel warms slower than wood, which changes the bees' daily schedule by about twenty minutes, which in turn changes the flavor of the honey in ways that the beekeepers argue over at conference. Every hive ships with a small, unexplained bell that is permitted to rattle inside the top super and must never be removed.
