Collected from the fruiting bodies of the flats-cacti by seed-keepers who walk a route older than the road beside it, and who are generally unwilling to explain which seeds are this year's and which are the slow stock. Planted in sand-poor soil they sprout in a week; planted anywhere wetter they rot quietly and leave the grower with an opinion about drainage. A well-stored twist will germinate reliably for a decade, which is longer than most growers stay in one place.
