Thrown at a wild pet during a duel to try to catch it. The odds scale with how weakened the target is: a pet at full health is roughly three times harder to catch than one on its last legs, and a status effect roughly doubles the chance again.

The ball is spent on the attempt, not on the result — a throw that breaks out is gone. Weaken the target first.
