Chronicle
Grown in every market-garden plot worth tending, on the strength of a crop that keeps paying through the cold months and tolerates being ignored for weeks at a time. Children are set on weeding duty as soon as they can tell the plant from the grass, which takes most of them longer than anyone likes to admit. A good carrot will outlast the cook who bought it, provided the cellar stays dry and the mice lose interest.
