Leather GlovesArmor

Boiled-leather gloves with a hardened cuff and no plate anywhere. Gloves rather than gauntlets, and the name is the honest one: a gauntlet is the plate, and there is none here. They stop a knuckle being opened on somebody's teeth and very little else, and they weigh almost nothing doing it.

Overview

The bottom rung of the hand rail, and the only piece of gear in the game that gives something back for what it does not stop: one point turned aside, and five more energy to spend on running and swinging. Hands tire in plate.

Worth keeping after the iron is affordable, which is the point of it — a wardrobe where the expensive thing is better at everything is a wardrobe with one answer in it.

Lore

The pair everybody starts in and a surprising number of people go back to. Hands tire in plate — an hour of drill in iron and the grip goes before the arm does — so scouts, archers and anyone who expects to be walking all day take the leather and accept what it does not stop. Cheap enough that a ruined pair is an afternoon's annoyance rather than a month's pay.
