Stackable
Pink skin flares outward in soft scales that tear easily once you start, revealing flesh the color of old snow studded with black seeds. The taste is mild, almost reluctant, closer to a cold melon than anything the outside would suggest.

Chronicle
Climbing cactus-vines along the dry southern cliffs put these out on a two-week cycle through the late summer, and the fruit is best eaten within a day of coming off the plant. Caravan cooks buy them cheap at the border and sell them twice over in the capital, where the novelty is still worth more than the flavor. Old pickers carry small whittled scoops for opening them, because the scales stain anything pale and no one wants to explain the evidence.
