The starting shield of every village watch from here to the river. Carpenters press them out by the dozen between the spring weapons-tax and the autumn harvest stand-down, and the watch sergeants accept them because losses to weather and woodworm always run ahead of replacements. A buckler that lasts past its second autumn is generally good for another five.
