Furnace

Stacked stone walls, a deep soot-black mouth, a chimney stack clad in rust-red brick. When the furnace is cold, it’s just a heap of rocks with a hole in it; when it’s burning, the coal glow leaks out every seam and the air above the chimney shimmers for twenty paces. You can feel the heat before you can see the flame.

Furnace

A kiln of stacked stone with a brick chimney belching heat. Smelts ore into ingots and stone into brick whenever it's fed fuel.

  • Production — recipe buffer drives smelting cycles. Iron Ore + Coal → Iron Ingot; Stone + Coal → Brick. Outputs ship to the Capital via SurplusExport.
  • No tender required — runs whenever fuel + inputs are present. Stays active until the feed stack empties.
  • Active visual — ember glow + chimney smoke while a recipe cycle is in progress (driven by BuildingActiveVisual + ProductionRecipeActiveJob).
  • Footprint — single hex. Must be placed inside Player territory.
  • Durability — 300 HP. Repaired by Builders.

A furnace that has burned for a year is said to remember. Smiths treat old furnaces with the same care a scribe gives a master’s desk — the walls absorb a history of heat, and every subsequent melt rides on the ghosts of the last thousand. First-firing a fresh furnace is a minor feast day. Tearing down an old one is a minor funeral.
