"It's a bar of iron."
Iron bar is smelted from one iron ore at Smithing level 15 for 12.5 XP. The base smelt success at a regular furnace is only 50% — Ring of forging or 58 Smithing at Blast Furnace eliminates the failure rate. Iron bars are used for iron weapons, armour, dart tips, and iron nails for early Construction, making them a steady mid-tier Smithing input.
