The fishing rod is the earliest fishing tool in Old School RuneScape, used at bait fishing spots together with fishing bait. With a rod equipped or carried, players can catch raw sardines at level 5 Fishing and raw herring at level 10 Fishing. It is stocked by multiple fishing shops across Gielinor and remains the standard recommendation for new accounts working toward 20 Fishing for fly fishing.
