Name Tag

miscenriched v1
minecraft:name_tag

A name tag is an item used to permanently rename a mob once it has been labeled on an anvil for 1 experience level. It can be crafted from paper and a metal nugget, found in mineshaft and monster room loot chests, caught while fishing, or bought from wandering traders. Once applied, a named mob becomes persistent and no longer despawns or counts toward the mob cap.

FAQ

How do I use a name tag?

Rename the name tag on an anvil for 1 experience level, then right-click a mob with it to give that mob the custom name permanently.

Where can I find name tags?

They can be crafted from paper and any metal nugget, looted from mineshaft or monster room chests, caught while fishing, or purchased from wandering traders.

Does naming a mob stop it from despawning?

Yes, a named mob becomes persistent and will not despawn, and it no longer counts toward the mob cap, with the exception of wandering traders.

Are there any special names that trigger effects?

Yes, naming a mob "Dinnerbone" or "Grumm" flips it upside down, and other special names like "jeb_" or "Toast" trigger unique cosmetic effects on specific mobs.
