A sculk sensor is a redstone block that detects vibrations — footsteps, block changes, projectiles, and other actions — within an 8-block spherical range and emits a redstone signal whose strength depends on how close the vibration occurred. It only drops itself when mined with Silk Touch; otherwise it yields 5 experience.

Uses

  • Wireless Redstone — Because it reacts to distant events, a sculk sensor acts as a contactless switch for hidden doors, alarms, and traps.
  • Warden Warning — Its activation, paired with a sculk shrieker, can trigger the warning cycle that eventually spawns the Warden.

Found In

  • Deep Dark biome — Generates naturally across the deep dark and ancient cities.
  • Sculk spread — Has a 9% chance to form on sculk blocks when a sculk catalyst absorbs a mob death.
  • Ancient City chests — Found as loot with roughly a 23.7% chance per chest.

FAQ

What tool breaks a sculk sensor fastest?

A hoe — a golden hoe is quickest. The block breaks slowly with anything else.

How do I collect the block itself?

Mine it with a Silk Touch tool. Without Silk Touch it drops 5 experience and no block.

Can I hide the redstone signal from it?

Yes — cover the sensor with wool, which dampens vibrations and prevents the sensor and nearby sculk from detecting them.
