Uses

  • Mushroom Farming — Mushrooms can be placed on Podzol at any light level, unlike on regular grass or dirt, making it useful for indoor or well-lit mushroom farms.
  • Dirt Path Conversion — A shovel can convert Podzol into a Dirt Path, though it cannot be tilled directly into Farmland.

Found In

  • Old growth taiga and bamboo jungle biomes — Generates naturally as the surface soil in these biomes.
  • Beneath large spruce trees — Replaces grass or dirt blocks under the canopy when a large (2x2) spruce tree grows from four saplings.
  • Trial chambers — Appears around bogged and cave spider spawner rooms.

Drops

FAQ

What does Podzol drop without Silk Touch?

Regular Dirt. You need Silk Touch to obtain the Podzol block itself.

What's the best tool to mine Podzol?

A shovel breaks it fastest, though it can be mined with any tool or bare hands since no tool tier is required for a drop.

Can grass spread onto Podzol?

No. Grass and mycelium cannot spread onto Podzol, and Podzol itself never spreads onto adjacent dirt.

Can I farm on Podzol?

Not directly — it cannot be tilled into Farmland. Convert it to a Dirt Path or replace it with Dirt first.
