Uses

  • Light source — Emits light level 15, the same as a lava block, making it a decorative and functional light source that cannot spread fire or flow.
  • Redstone comparator input — Outputs a fixed comparator signal strength of 3, useful in redstone contraptions that check cauldron contents.

Found In

  • Crafted / filled manually — Right-click an empty cauldron with a lava bucket to fill it; empty it again with an empty bucket.
  • Pointed dripstone drip — A dripstone dripping lava above an empty cauldron slowly fills it over time, making it renewable.

FAQ

What does mining a Lava Cauldron drop?

An empty cauldron item. The lava inside is always lost when the block is broken, regardless of tool.

Can a Lava Cauldron start fires?

No. Unlike a free-standing lava source, lava held in a cauldron does not ignite nearby blocks or spread fire.

How do I fill a cauldron with lava?

Right-click it with a lava bucket, or place it under a pointed dripstone that drips lava to fill it slowly over time.

Is a Lava Cauldron dangerous to touch?

Yes. Entities that step into it take fire damage just like standing in lava.
