Farmland
minecraft:farmlandFarmland is the tilled soil block created by using a hoe on dirt, grass, or dirt paths. It is required beneath most crops and must stay hydrated by nearby water or rain to grow crops at full speed.
Uses
- Wheat — Farmland is the required planting surface for wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroots, and other seed-based crops.
- Melon and Pumpkin stems — Melon and pumpkin stems must also be planted on farmland before their fruit can spread to adjacent blocks.
Found In
- Villages — Generates naturally in village farm plots, already tilled and often planted.
- Woodland Mansions — A small number of farmland blocks appear in mansion garden rooms.
- Player-made farms — Created anywhere by using a hoe on dirt, grass blocks, rooted dirt, or dirt paths.
FAQ
What does breaking farmland drop?
Without Silk Touch it drops a single Dirt block; with Silk Touch it drops itself as Farmland.
Why did my farmland turn back into dirt?
Farmland reverts to dirt if it dries out completely with no crop planted, or if an entity jumps onto it and triggers trampling damage.
How close does water need to be to hydrate it?
Water (or rain) hydrates farmland within a 4-block horizontal radius, at the same level or one block above the farmland.
Can I mine farmland with any tool?
Yes, any tool or your hand can break it — a shovel is just the fastest option.
