Uses

  • Cobbled Deepslate — Mined deepslate yields cobbled deepslate, which crafts into deepslate bricks, tiles, walls, slabs, and stairs.
  • Building and Decoration — A pillar block that can be oriented on the X, Y, or Z axis, offering a dark palette for builds and stonecutter variants.

Found In

  • Below Y = 0 — Makes up most solid blocks below Y=0, fully replacing stone by Y=0.
  • Transition band (Y = 0 to 8) — Gradually replaces stone from Y=8 downward.
  • Ancient Cities — Abundant throughout the deep dark biome and its structures.

FAQ

What tool do I need to mine Deepslate?

A pickaxe of wooden tier or better. Mining with any other tool drops nothing.

What does it drop?

Cobbled deepslate when mined normally, or the deepslate block itself with a Silk Touch pickaxe.

Why does it take so long to mine?

Deepslate has a hardness of 3, twice that of stone, so it takes roughly twice as long to break.

Can I get the smooth deepslate block back?

Yes. Smelt cobbled deepslate in a furnace to turn it back into solid deepslate.
