Uses

  • Wearable armor — Equipped in the helmet slot, it halves how far creepers can detect the wearer, making it useful for sneaking past them.
  • Firework star / banner pattern ingredient — Used as a crafting ingredient for certain firework star effects and banner patterns depicting a creeper face.
  • Note block decoration — Placing it on a note block changes the instrument sound to a hissing creeper noise.

Found In

  • Charged creeper explosions — Drops when a lightning-charged creeper's explosion kills a regular creeper. In Java Edition only one random head drops per explosion.

FAQ

What tool do I need to mine it?

None; it breaks at the same speed with any tool or bare hands, and always drops itself.

How do I get a Creeper Head?

You cannot craft or buy one. A creeper must be killed by the explosion of a different, lightning-charged creeper.

Does it stack?

Yes, up to 64 per stack, like other mob heads.

What's the difference between this and the wall variant?

Creeper Head sits on top of a block and can face 16 directions; Creeper Wall Head is a separate block placed on the side of a block, facing one of 4 cardinal directions.
