Chipped Anvil
minecraft:chipped_anvilThe Chipped Anvil is the mid-damage stage of an anvil, appearing after its first random degradation from repeated use. It functions identically to an undamaged anvil, letting players rename items, combine enchantments, and repair gear.
Uses
- Item Repair & Enchanting — Use in an anvil interface to rename items, merge two enchanted items, or combine an enchanted book with gear, spending experience levels for each operation.
Found In
- Woodland Mansion — Damaged anvils generate in mansion forge rooms; chipped anvils also appear in trail ruins, or result from a base anvil degrading through use.

FAQ
What tool do I need to mine a Chipped Anvil?
Any pickaxe, wood tier or higher. Mining with anything less (or no pickaxe at all) destroys it without a drop.
How does an anvil become chipped?
Each anvil use has a chance to degrade it one stage: normal to chipped, then chipped to damaged, then damaged anvils can break entirely on a failed roll.
Does a Chipped Anvil work worse than a normal anvil?
No. All anvil damage stages function identically for repairing, renaming, and enchant merging; only the texture differs.
Can falling anvils hurt me?
Yes. An anvil falling more than one block deals damage per extra block fallen, up to a cap, and can also destroy items or mobs beneath it.
