  • Basalt Generation — Placing Blue Ice next to Soul Soil under flowing lava creates Basalt, a Nether-adjacent farming trick usable in the Overworld.

Found In

FAQ

What tool do I need to mine Blue Ice?

A Silk Touch enchanted tool. Without Silk Touch, mining it drops nothing at all.

Can I craft Blue Ice?

Yes, nine Packed Ice blocks arranged in a 3x3 crafting grid produce one Blue Ice block, but it cannot be crafted back into Packed Ice.

Why do players build tracks out of it?

Its high slipperiness lets boats travel much faster than on any other ice or ground surface, making it the fastest known method of overworld boat transportation.

Does it melt near torches or other light sources?

No, unlike regular ice, Blue Ice does not melt when placed near light-emitting blocks.
