Uses

  • Light Source — Ignite with flint and steel, a fire charge, or a flaming projectile. One candle gives light level 3, and stacking up to four in one block raises it to a maximum of 12.
  • Cake Topping — Place directly on top of an uneaten cake to create a candle cake, combining decoration with a light source.

Found In

  • Crafted — Made by combining one candle with blue dye in a crafting grid; the base uncolored candle is crafted from string and a honeycomb.

FAQ

What tool do I need to mine a candle?

None. It breaks instantly with any tool or by hand and always drops itself.

Is a candle flammable?

Yes, unlike beds and carpets, candles are flammable and can be destroyed by fire spreading to them.

How do I put out a lit candle?

Water, a wind charge, or right-clicking it with an empty hand extinguishes the flame. Waterlogged candles cannot be lit at all.

Can I change a candle's color after crafting?

No. Once dyed, a candle's color is permanent; you must craft a new candle with a different dye to get another color.
