Uses

  • Repair Items — Combine two similar damaged items or repair with raw materials (iron ingots for iron tools, diamonds for diamond tools) to restore durability while preserving enchantments.
  • Rename and Combine Enchantments — Rename any item for one experience level, and transfer or merge enchantments from books or sacrificed items onto a target.

  • Crafting — Three iron blocks across the top and four iron ingots (one center, three along the bottom) — 31 iron ingots total.
  • Woodland Mansions — Occasionally generates as decoration in woodland mansion rooms.

What tool do I need to break an anvil?

A pickaxe of any tier (wooden or better). Without a pickaxe it drops nothing and breaks slowly.

Why did my anvil break?

Each use has a 12% chance to degrade the anvil one stage; it lasts about 25 uses on average. Falling more than one block can also damage or destroy it.

Do falling anvils hurt?

Yes. A falling anvil deals 2 HP per block fallen after the first, capped at 40 HP. A helmet reduces the damage by 25% but takes double durability loss.
